Dear Fellow Carroll County Citizen:

I would like to introduce myself and let you know that I am running to represent our district on the next County Commissioner Board. I believe the best government comes not from career politicians but from concerned citizens like myself who seek to serve our community. I believe my years in the business world and service on several volunteer citizen boards give me a unique skill set to serve our districts' interests well. We have seen the results of entrenched incumbents who govern with too much power at the expense of the people. I believe it is time for citizen representatives to bring needed change to Carroll County.

I invite you to participate in a unique opportunity. On September 14th Carroll County residents in Commissioner District 4 will vote for one commissioner in a field of candidates running in five districts. This is our first opportunity to have a Commissioner that directly represents our beautiful, rural corner of the county.

Our area was targeted with several large rezoning plans during the recent Pathways proposal. It is critical that we elect someone to protect the interests of the residents in our district as the County moves forward to update the Master Plan. If elected I will monitor this update and pledge to keep the citizens of our district informed and involved every step of the way.

"Usually, I don't comment on local Republican primary races but the problems facing Carroll County are so profound that I would like to bring to your attention, Dave Jones. I can personally attest that Dave shares my philosophy of a smaller more efficient government with reduced tax burdens and less unnecessary regulation."
-Congressman Roscoe Bartlett.

There are several issues that have been at the forefront the past several months; airport expansion, waste to energy incinerator, pathways rezoning, creation of a county police force and expanding the commercial tax base. These and other issues will be addressed by the new Commissioner Board. It is my belief that the financial stability of the county is not as healthy as it could or should be. I find it disturbing that we are laying off employees at the lower end of the pay scale but retaining high paid political appointees to new and unnecessary positions. I think it is an abuse of taxpayer money to fight a lawsuit brought by a local builder who followed county rules that the county changed after the fact. The Commissioners at the time, Julia Gouge, Dean Minnich and Perry Jones allowed this case to drag on from 2003 at the taxpayers' expense until finally paying this builder $24 million dollars. Carroll County faces hard budget choices as we weather this recession. I will bring fiscal common sense to the table. I will ask the hard questions. I will keep you informed. I will give more than lip-service to "transparency in government", I will deliver.

If you believe we can do better to: reduce taxes, reduce waste in government, plan responsibly and protect the quality of life we know as "Carroll County Living", then I am asking for your vote on September 14th and for your financial support. My pledge to you is to be accessible to every citizen, to listen to your concerns and to make decisions that I believe are best for our county. I appreciate the support you are able to give to bring a change of direction to our county.

Sincerely,

David Jones
